US Congressman targeted Erdogan: He lives in a fantasy world

A very harsh statement targeting President Erdogan came from the Greek lobby in Washington regarding the ongoing F-16 negotiations between Turkey and the USA.

While Turkey is waiting for a new step from the USA regarding the sale of the F-16, figures close to the Greek lobby in the US Congress continue their anti-Turkey activities.

Turkey, which was removed from the F-35 program after purchasing the S-400 from Russia, made a request last year to purchase 40 F-16 fighter jets and 80 modernization kits for F-16s from the United States. The sale of F-16s to Turkey, for which US President Joe Biden gave the green light a few months ago, caused objections within the US administration. The bill, which was presented by the US Congress members, who are known to be close to the Greek lobby, and restricting the sale of new F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, was approved in the House of Representatives voting in July.

Finally, Republican Gus Bilirakis, a member of the Greek lobby in the US Congress, made statements directly targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

President Erdogan said that he received positive feedback from two US senators, whom he met in New York this week, about the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey. Referring to this statement, US Congressman Bilirakis argued that Republicans do not support the sale of F-16s to Turkey and said, “This is proof that Erdogan is living in a fantasy world.”

Bilirakis, who went even further and used the phrase “Erdogan is confusing his dreams with reality”, in a message he shared on Twitter, he said that most of the members of Congress, 59 of them from the Republican Party, support limiting the sale of F-16s to Turkey.

“Erdogan will learn that being a bad ally and being bullied is not the way to get what he wants,” Bilirakis said.
