Georgian Prime Minister Garibashvili’s candidacy statement to the EU

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated that his country’s opportunity to join the European Union (EU) is a strong motivation and said, “Georgia deserves the status of a candidate country for the EU.” said.

Addressing the 77th General Assembly of the UN in New York, Garibashvili made evaluations about the ongoing war in Ukraine and said that they have provided important humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.

“Georgia sided with Ukraine.” Garibashvili said, reacting to Russia’s start of war in Ukraine.

Garibashvili said, “The war is still going on, not too far from my country. Russia’s large-scale war in Ukraine undermines the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law.” used his statements.

Garibashvili, who wants all countries that support democracy in the world to unite against violence, said:

“In 2008, Russia attacked my country, resulting in the current occupation of 20 percent of our land. At that time, the international community accepted this aggression, but we learned that the world’s democracies must work together to ensure the victory of freedom and peace.”


Irakli Garibashvili stated that the integration process continues in order for Georgia to become an EU member state, “Georgia deserves the status of a candidate country to the EU.” said.

Emphasizing that the opportunity to join the EU is a strong motivation for his country and its people, Garibashvili stated that they continue to implement effective reforms as a government.

Emphasizing that his country has made significant contributions to the maintenance and strengthening of global peace and that they are ready to do so in the future, Garibashvili said, “Georgia reaffirms its readiness to participate in the defense of common security by supporting NATO and providing continuous assistance to EU missions.” he said.


Prime Minister Garibashvili also touched upon the developments between Georgia’s two border neighbors, Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasizing the importance of peace for the South Caucasus.

Stating that they are ready to be seen as a dialogue center as Georgia for the normalization of relations between the two border neighbor countries and the establishment of the necessary peace and stability in the region, Garibashvili added that they have signed successful examples in this direction before.
