“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk announced through his official account.

Musk promoted a 24-hour survey that ended this Saturday to ask whether former US President Donald Trump should return to the social network, whom the platform suspended indefinitely after linking his comments to the assault on the Capitol.

According to the results that Musk has published from the survey, which has received 15,085,458 votes, 51.8% have been in favor of restoring Trump’s account, while 48.2% have done so against it.

In early November, Musk said Twitter “won’t allow” anyone removed from the social network for violating its rules to return to the platform until the company has a clear process.

The magnate, who bought the network for 44,000 million dollars, also said in a series of tweets that “Twitter’s content moderation council will integrate representatives with widely divergent points of view, which will undoubtedly include the civil rights community and groups that combat hate-fuelled violence.

In the tweet that followed the survey, Musk implied with the message “Vox Populi, Vox Dei!” (a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people is the voice of God”), that the return of Trump – who announced his candidacy in the 2024 presidential election this week – would depend on the result of the poll.

Before buying the social network, Musk said that among the people he would welcome to Twitter is former President Donald Trump.

Yesterday, Musk announced the unblocking of the Twitter accounts of writer Jordan Peterson, comedian Kathy Griffin and conservative parody outlet The Babylon Bee.

Peterson’s and Babylon Bee’s profiles were blocked for posting content disrespecting the trans community, while Griffin’s was removed for impersonating Musk.
