This was the start of the Under 20 Athletics World Cup in Cali

The Under-20 World Championships in Athletics began, which takes place in Cali. In total, this Monday 14 Colombian athletes debuted, of which three managed to qualify for the next round in two disciplines.

On the one hand, Valentina Barrios, the first national athlete to enter the competition, had a good performance in the javelin throw qualifiers and qualified for the final in seventh place, with a record of 52.53. The final test will be this Tuesday at 5:20 in the afternoon.

On the other hand, in the 100 meters flat, Ronal Longa was third in the sixth heat and obtained his personal best with 10.40, while Carlos Yesid Flórez occupied that same position in the fourth and achieved his best time of the season: 10.45 . Both will compete in the semifinals of their discipline.

This Tuesday, they will be in competition, in addition to the finalists, Miguel Cervantes, in pole vault; Ánderson Asprilla, in high jump; Juliana Garcés in 400 meter hurdles; Jean Carlos Ortiz, in the hammer throw and Laura Martínez, in the 100 meters.

In addition to the participation of Colombian athletes in the opening of the contest, Cali also witnessed the delivery of the first medals of the event.

Kenya’s Betty Chelangat won the women’s 3,000m while Ethiopia’s Addisu Yihune won gold in the men’s 5,000m.
