Mayer Candelo’s relationship with Deportivo Cali ended by mutual agreement.
Deportivo Cali announced this Thursday that his relationship with Mayer Candelo and his coaching staff ended by mutual agreement. The Caleño coach, who had arrived in July as a replacement for Rafael Dudamel, was unable to put out the fire within the sugar group and left the team in last place in the table.
The last game that Candelo was in charge of was the duel against Cortuluá on Wednesday, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for his team. Around the 81st minute, several Cali fans invaded the field of Doce de Octubre, in Tuluá, and They looked for the players and members of the coaching staff to attack them.

Deportivo Cali thanked Mayer for his services and announced that Professor Sergio Angulo will take charge of the professional team while the Executive Committee defines a substitute.
While in charge, Candelo managed in 13 games. He recorded five draws, seven losses and a single victory, against Pasto on date seven. It was his second experience as a coach. He made his debut on the bench in March 2019 with Cortuluá, a team he managed until the end of that season.

For now, Cali signs one of its worst seasons in history and runs the risk of fighting not to descend in the coming seasons due to this year’s results. 2022 has been more or less for the team, because after being league champions in December and playing in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, they were sunk at the bottom of the table.
