Authorities announced on Friday, January 21, 19,649 new infections with COVID, the highest balance since the virus appeared in the country, after performing 82,330 tests. 49 deaths were also reported. Currently, 564 people are hospitalized in intensive care, 17 more than the previous day.
Romania on Friday set a new negative pandemic record, confirming 19,649 cases of people infected with coronavirus detected in the last 24 hours. The balance is slightly higher than on Thursday, when they were recorded 19.105 new cases, but the number of tests is also higher. In the last 24 hours, 82,330 tests were performed – 26,336 PCR and 55,994 antigenic rapid.
Most of the new cases announced on Friday were in Bucharest – 2,531. Timiș counties follow – 1,417 new cases and Cluj – 1,375.
The national infection rate is 5.75. 24 counties are in the red scenario. The highest infection rate is in Cluj – 11.95.
To date, a total of 1,983,670 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been registered in Romania on January 21, of which 27,903 are from re-infected patients, tested positive at a period of more than 180 days after the first infection.
1,812,242 patients were declared cured.
Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 784 people were reconfirmed positively.
49 deaths announced today
21 men 29 women infected with COVID have lost their lives in the last 24 hours.
Of the 49 deaths, 2 were recorded in the 40-49 age group, 6 in the 50-59 age group, 11 in the 60-69 age group, 8 in the 70-79 age group and 22 in the age group over 80 years.
47 of the registered deaths were of some patients who had comorbidities, one deceased patient did not show comorbidities, and for one deceased patient no comorbidities have been reported so far.
Out of a total of 49 patients who died, 43 were unvaccinated and 6 were vaccinated. Vaccinated patients ranged in age from 50 to 59 years and over 80 years. All vaccinated patients who died had comorbidities.
No deaths were reported before the reference period.
To date, 59,477 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.
The number of patients at ATI is increasing
In the specialized health units, the number of people hospitalized in wards with COVID-19 is 5,405, 460 more than the previous day. Also, 564 people are hospitalized at ATI, 17 more than the previous day. Of the 564 patients admitted to the ICU, 65 had a certificate attesting to the vaccination.
Out of the total number of hospitalized patients, 485 are minors, 473 being hospitalized in wards, with 72 more than the previous day and 12 at ATI, with one less than the previous day.
Another 88,494 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 5,332 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 75,683 people are in quarantine at home, and 86 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
