Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday that the United States is destabilizing the world.
The diplomat wrote on her Telegram channel that China had suspended the import of a number of food products from Taiwan.
And noted that, according to the Central News Agency of the island, “these measures are interpreted as a response to the likely visit to Taipei Nancy Pelosi.”
Companies involved in the production of tea, dried fruits, honey, cocoa beans and vegetables were blacklisted, Zakharova said. Also under the ban were the products of about seven hundred fishing vessels.
“Washington is bringing destabilization to the world,” Zakharova stated, explaining that over the past decade the United States has not resolved a single conflict, but provoked many.
Earlier, China warned that it would take strong measures to protect the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country if the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, flew to visit Taiwan. Pelosi wants to visit Taipei against the wishes of Beijing, which considers the island part of China and does not recognize its independence.
Around Taiwan now, amid the aggravated situation around the visit of Pelosi, both China and the United States have deployed their armed forces. Analysts say that in the event of a military use of force by any of the parties, a major armed conflict could begin.
