Erdogan says ‘our mosques have been burnt down’: criminal complaint comes from HKP

Calling those who participated in the Gezi protests “sluts”, AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claimed that “they burned down our mosques” while describing the events that unfolded at that time in his party’s speech at the Kızılcahamam camp. HKP lawyers took the controversial complaint to court. HKP lawyers filed a criminal complaint with the Kızılcahamam Attorney General’s Office, stating that President Erdoğan had committed the crimes of “inciting the people to hatred and hostility”, “slander” and “violation of the Constitution”.

In the petition submitted to the Attorney General’s office, he demanded an investigation and then a public action against Erdoğan.

“MILLIONS slandered”

HKP VQA member Adnan Okur made a statement regarding the criminal complaint. Recalling that Erdogan took an oath on his honor and dignity at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Okur said: “Erdogan will have forgotten this oath, first of all to our people, who represent 75% of Turkey; He insulted our wives and daughters as ‘rotten’, ‘bitches’ and then slandered millions of us saying, ‘They burned down our mosques’.

Saying “So we ask”, the Reader listed his questions as follows:

• Where is the mosque that was allegedly burnt down?

• What is the name of the mosque that is said to have been burnt down?

• Is there a picture of the mosque being burnt down?

• Has the suspect Tayyip Erdoğan heard of the mosque which was allegedly burnt down 9 years ago?

• What is the purpose of making such a serious complaint 9 years later? Isn’t such an allegation divisive and inciting people to harm?

• Has anyone seen or heard that the mosque, the location and name of which are unknown, has been burnt down?

• Those who set fire to the mosque have been arrested, have measures been taken against them?

The reader continues his statement as follows:

“As HKP; We filed a criminal complaint against Recep Tayyip Erdoğan against this dangerous rhetoric, which aims to deliberately incite the secular segment by exploiting the sincere religious feelings and religious sensibilities of our people. Even if not today, in the future judges and prosecutors who take their power from the law and their conscience will surely come out and hold them accountable.
