In TRNC, Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu presented the resignation of the coalition government composed of UBP, DP and YDP to President Tatar. Tatar, meeting with representatives of political parties represented in parliament last week, announced that he would hand over the task of forming the government to an MP who could win a vote of confidence and that early elections were not an alternative.

In the early legislative elections of January 23 in TRNC, UBP finished first with 39.54%. The Turkish Republican Party (CTP) won 32.4%, the Democratic Party (DP) 7.41%, the Renaissance Party (YDP) 6.39% and the People’s Party (HP) 6.68%. According to these results, UBP won 24 seats, CTP 18, DP 3, HP 3, YDP 2 seats in the 50-member Republican Assembly.


Ustel was born in 1955 in Paphos. After completing his secondary and high school education at Paphos Kurtuluş High School, Üstünel graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry in 1983.

In the 1991 mid-term elections and the 1993 snap general election, Üstel was elected Member of Parliament for Girne from the UBP and served as Member of Parliament for Girne until 2003. While serving as Vice President of the Assembly between June 22, 2001 and October 2, 2003, Üstel served as Deputy General Secretary of UBP from 2006 to 2009.

In the snap parliamentary elections of 19 April 2009, he was re-elected MP Girne from the UBP. While he was re-elected MP Girne of the UBP in the early general elections of July 28, 2013, he was Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic of the TRNC, which he created on September 4, 2013, until 9 October 2015. In the snap parliamentary elections of 7 January 2018, Üstel was elected MP for UBP Kyrenia and served as administrative head of the Presidency Council of the Assembly of the Republic.

While he was Minister of Tourism and Environment in the UBP-People’s Party coalition government set up on May 22, 2019, he was Minister of Public Works and Transport in the UBP-Democratic Party coalition government ( DP)-Renaissance Party (YDP). established on December 9, 2020. served as. Ustal, whose term ended on February 20, 2021, was appointed Minister of Health on the same date, and that term ended on November 5, 2021.

In the snap parliamentary elections of 23 January 2022, Üstel was elected Girne MP of the UBP and served as Minister of Interior in the UBP-DP-YDP coalition government formed on 21 February 2022. Üstel continues to exercise the interior minister in the UBP-DP-YDP coalition government established on April 25, 2022.
