A cryptocurrency professional will join the CFTC team

Caroline Pham, the current commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has appointed a new senior policy adviser. Experienced, the latter is actually a former head of US regulatory policy at the investment bank Credit Suisse Securities: Keaghan Ames. And the least we can say is that he knows about cryptocurrencies.

New position, new responsibility

Keaghan Ames is no newcomer to the world of finance. On the contrary, he has a lot of experience. In fact, he worked at Credit Suisse for more than two years serving as Vice President and Head of US Regulatory Policy. He has in particular advised executives on cryptocurrency regulation.

In an announcement she made last Friday, Ms Pham indicated that this professional will now be her senior policy advisor at the CFTC starting May 23. Thus, Mr. Ames will leave his current position as Director of Government Affairs of the Institute of International Bankers. He has been there since July 2021.

The Role of the CFTC

During his tenure at Credit Suisse, Mr. Ames has made the digital asset branch one of the most important branches of his business. The company has made many transaction testing using the blockchain. In addition, it piloted a settlement system. It should be noted that in February, she was the victim of a massive data leak regarding its account holders, which would include sanctioned persons and heads of state.

Finally, it should be noted that alongside the Federal Reserve, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Treasury Department and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the CFTC deals with the policy around regulation cryptocurrencies in the United States.

According to Cointelegraph, last March the agency sought to obtain a considerable budget of 365 million dollars to be deployed in the context of its next fiscal year, based on the investments in digital assets of its customers.

In order to better guide its policy on cryptocurrencies, Caroline Pham, the current commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has chosen to use the expertise of Mr. Ames. The latter has a wide range of skills in the field.
