Domna Michailidou: The “Personal assistant” program starts on Monday

The needs that will be served will be many such as “getting out of the house, going to work, going to university, sending their children to school”, explained Domna Michailidou.

The start of the program of “Personal assistant» on Monday, but also the start of use of the electronic disability card from November 1, announced the Deputy Minister of Welfare and Social Solidarity, Domna Michailidou

“On Monday, the personal assistant platform opens,” Ms. Michailidou emphasized, adding that “it serves a very great need of people with disabilities and their families.”

The needs that will be served will be many such as “getting out of the house, going to work, going to university, sending their children to school”, explained Domna Michailidou.

At the same time, he emphasized: “What the state is doing is instead of just giving them the allowance – of course it continues to provide the allowance normally and continues to increase it as we saw from the Prime Minister’s measures at the TIF – but on top of that, the state comes and finances these needs.

Regarding the criteria of the participants in the program, the deputy minister stated that the prerequisite is a disability of over 67%, and it concerns any form of disability and concerns ages from 15 to 65 years and Ms. Michailidou analyzed the process.

“The hours someone will have the assistant will be the result of the meeting that will be held at home by a Three-Member Committee, which consists of a psychologist, a social worker and an occupational therapist or physiotherapist.”

Regarding the welfare and housing allowances, the deputy minister argued: “What we have tried to intensify as a logic in the last 3 years is that we do not go horizontally to give support, we go to the most vulnerable and thus 1 in 3 Greeks will be supported before Christmas”.

Welfare, family and housing benefits will be given in December, announced the Deputy Minister of Welfare & Social Solidarity.

The mother of a student with Down syndrome, Ms. Skariba, spoke on the show and highlighted the issue with special schools that are not full-time and parents cannot work.

The Deputy Minister stated that progress is being made, but much still needs to be done in this area.

In addition, from November 1, the electronic disability card will start, Ms. Michaelidou reminded and explained that “it is like a student pass and every person with a disability will be able to give it as an identification card” and it will be in the “gov.gr wallet”.
