During routine checks carried out in two separate regions by law enforcement in May, 41.5 kilograms of salep onions were seized from a bag.

The management of the Zonguldak branch of the DKMP imposed an administrative fine of 438,000,372 liras, 109,000,593 liras on each person, for violating the Environmental Law no.

The seized salep bulbs were replanted in their natural environment, where they were removed, by staff from the DKMP Zonguldak branch.


Salep onions are listed as endangered under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Plants and Animals (CITES).

The salep plant, which is under protection, is not allowed to be taken from the wild.

Removing the root tubers of salep and wild orchids and collecting them for commercial purposes poses the danger of these endemic plants becoming extinct over time.
